The Best Wrestler in the World Signs with WWE

As it was reported last night on www.rohwrestling.com Former ROH World Champion, FIP champion, ROH pure champion, and GHC Junior Heavweight champion "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson has signed with WWE. If anyone asks me who got me into ROH I'll reply CM Punk but if you were to ask me what made you love ROH what made ROH your favorite promotion for the last year and a half I will reply Bryan Danielson without question.

If any indy wrestler deserves the opportunity to shine in front of millions of people it is Danielson no questions asked. I should be happy, I should be pumped up about all the potential dream matches that are now a possibility now that he will be in WWE. Danielson vs. HBK (the guy who trained him), Danielson vs. Morrison, Danielson vs. Undertaker, Danielson vs. Rey Myseterio Danielson vs. Chris Jericho, Danielson vs. William Regal (another guy who trained him), hell for old times sake Danielson vs. Punk on a worldwide scale hell maybe even Steamboat could come out of retirement one more time to face the American Dragon. Thoughts like this should make me happy and give me a sense of anticipation like a child would in the weeks leading up to Christmas or his birthday.

I do not feel excited , however. I'm worried he hasn't even had his final match in ROH (which is September 26 in New York city at the Grand Ballroom in the Manhattan Center the former home of Monday Night Raw) and I'm worried for ROH's future and I'm worried about how Bryan will be used.

ROH is a smaller company and in this tough economic time they have had some hardships. Rumor has it on wrestling websites that since ROH's tv show will be airing before Monday Night Raw now on HDnet that WWE is doing a talent raid of ROH and this was their first signing. WWE could be raiding a promotion that isn't a threat to them and this is the same company which whines and cries every chance they get about WCW doing the same thing to them. Hypocritical bullshit like this is a reason why I'm not a very big fan of WWE anymore. Now I know many people have said that ROH will be ok because everyone thought the end of the world was coming when Punk left and Samoa Joe left, which it's true they recovered from those losses. Punk and Joe were the only top guys leaving during that time period if WWE takes 5 of ROH's top stars then it could very well put ROH into a huge hole, and without ROH being around the wrestling business as a whole will be hurt because it doesnt give young guys the chance to learn their craft or give veterans and released stars (like Petey Williams, Sonjay Dutt, and D-Lo Brown) who still have a ton of ability the chance to work and entertain.

The reason I'm worried for Bryan is that he doesn't fit the mold of a WWE superstar. He isn't 6'5...hell he aint even 6'0 he isn't loaded up on steroids like Batista. Vince McMahon doesn't see anything in Christian who is a fantastic wrestler and a fantastic entertainer so it worries me that he will not use a wonderful talent like Bryan Danielson. While CM Punk have achieved great success in WWE since his debut lets take a look at the track records of other wrestlers that WWE has signed who made their name in a different promotion in the post-Monday Night War era.

Chris Harris (Braden Walker)-Former NWA tag champ in TNA was a TNA original and if a falling-out did't occur he might've become TNA world champion. Never given a chance, waas on tv for three weeks then released after being in developmental for God-Knows how long

Colt Cabana (Scotty Goldman)- Former ROH tag team champ with CM Punk had many great matches in ROH was a really funny and charasmatic guy who could've gotten over with a WWE audience. Was given 7 matches on tv he jobbed in all of them and was never given an opportunity after being in OVW and FCW for longer than he probably should've been

Ace Steel- Trainer of Punk and Cabana good talent had some good mathces in ROH but his only claim to fame was playing Donal Trump in that incredibly fucking stupid Donald Trump vs. Rosie match. He spent most of his time in developmental where he was released

James Gibson (Jamie Noble)- I know he was in WCW and WWE prior to all this but during his time away he went to ROH and was used to his best potential he even won the ROH world championship there before he was defeated by Bryan Danielson. Now he is Jobber McJobberstien and never given the time of day to be good...let alone great. I'm not saying jamie Noble could be WWE world champion but he could be a great mid-carder and have great mathces but instead he only get's 8 seconds and casual fans and marks write him off like he is terrible.

I hold out for hope and I pray that Danielson will be used correctly and we will be able to see those dream matches I listed above. I would like nothing more than for Bryan to have a successful long career in WWE and win the world title and be part of Wrestlemania so the world can see how truly great he is and I can smile knowing I was a fan way before any of that success occured, with the track record like I listed above I cannot help but worry that one of my all time favorites and a guy who inspired me to pursue wrestling might just be molded into something marks can say is "weak" or that "he sucks". This can either make me follow WWE religiously like I did in the 90's and early 2000's or it can make me lose interest in wrestling as a whole.

I don't want to end my first blog on such a negative not but I do want to take this time to thank Bryan Danielson for all of his contributions to ROH and Indy wrestling and I as well as many others appreciated you putting your heart and soul into entertaining us. As i stated earlier if anyone deserves a spot it is him I just hope it doesn't ruin what made him great.
